Waternish Wind Farm

Community Liaison Officer required

Wind Development Holdings Limited is evaluating prospects for a wind farm on land at Greshornish, on the Waternish Peninsula, approximately 4.5km to the north-east of Dunvegan. The potential site for the wind farm is made up largely of commercial forestry as well as surrounding areas of open moorland.

Waternish Wind Farm would be a further step on our national journey towards net zero, securing clean, green, renewable energy and building future energy security. Our proposal would generate over 50MW of energy, meaning that we are preparing a planning application for the Scottish Government’s Energy Consents Unit.

The initial proposals envisage up to 15 turbines, with a tip height of up to 200m, and a total generating capacity of over 50MW.

Working closely with local people, community groups and local businesses, our mission is to develop Waternish Wind Farm as an asset to the local community, including exploration of community ownership options.

If approved, the project will support a long-term community benefit package which can fund a wide range of initiatives that reflect local ambitions and are distributed as directed by the local community.

You can view our scoping report for Waternish Wind Farm on our Resources page, where we will display up-to-date materials relating to the project as it progresses.

Prior to submitting any application to the Scottish Government we will share our proposals as they evolve with key stakeholders and the local community, via public exhibition events, and displaying various updates on this website.

We held our first public exhibitions at the end of March in Uig and Waternish and our second public exhibitions in September in Edinbane, Waternish and Uig. We also held a community design workshop for representatives of community councils and local groups in the summer.

As a developer we are committed to bringing forward sensitively designed onshore wind farms, working closely with local communities throughout the process. The willingness of local people to engage with us is a key part of our collaborative approach.

You can see copies of the information provided at our public exhibitions here.
